Flat Surface Reconstruction Using Sonar

چکیده
A technique is given for the recovery of planar surfaces using two beam-spread sonar readings. If a single, planar surface gave rise to the two readings, then the method recovers the surface quite accurately. Simulation and experiment demonstrate the effectiveness of the technique and recommend its use in practice. 3D Reconstruction of seabed surface through sonar data of AUVs
Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are widely used to explore the mysterious underwater world. Following along predefined spatial paths, AUVs are able to gather valuable seabed information in a designated area by recruiting sonar suites. The acoustic data collected by AUVs are usually in the type of point cloud with range information. Hence, how to reconstruct the topography of seabed via 3D...
متن کاملSurface Reconstruction of Ancient Water Storage Systems An Approach for Sparse 3D Sonar Scans and Fused Stereo Images
This work presents a new approach to reconstructing surfaces of underwater structures from stereo images and sonar scans collected with a micro-ROV on the islands of Malta and Gozo. Using a limited sensor load, sonar and small GoPro Hero2 cameras, the micro-ROV is able to explore small hard to reach water systems and gather data. Our algorithm is able to reconstruct geometric models of explored...
متن کاملInversion of the circular averages transform using the Funk transform
The integral of a function defined on the half-plane along the semi-circles centered on the boundary of the half-plane is known as the circular averages transform. Circular averages transform arises in many tomographic image reconstruction problems. In particular, in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) when the transmitting and receiving antennas are colocated, the received signal is modeled as the ...
متن کاملKernel Based Surface Reconstruction in a Side-scan Sonar Simulation Framework
In this paper we present an existing framework for surface reconstruction from side-scan data based on a forward simulation stage and an estimation stage which considers vehicular ego-motion. It is discussed how an extension of the method using a kernelized surface representation could look like and discuss approaches from literature like a Bayesian formulation in a Markov Random Field structure.
متن کاملSurface Reconstruction of Maltese Cisterns Using ROV Sonar Data for Archeological Study
We present a methodology and algorithm for the reconstruc tion of three dimensional geometric models of ancient Maltese water stor age systems, i.e. cisterns, from sonar data. This project was conducted as a part of a four week expedition on the islands of Malta and Gozo. During this expedition, investigators used underwater robot systems ca pable of mapping ancient underwater cisterns and t...
